Medieval Blacksmiths – more than just a weapons maker

In medieval times, the local blacksmith was often called upon to sort out disputes amongst the folk. Blacksmiths were well respected and stood strong on nobel issues of society. They were usually the strongest and fittest which meant they were best placed to settle a dispute (usually by dealing a flogging). In a sense, they used their advocacy skills to resolve disputes, much like engaging a lawyer of today.

Medieval Blacksmiths

People engage lawyers as advocates for many reasons. As advocates, we help other people who don’t have the knowledge, skills, or other expertise that we have. As advocates, we take our client’s side in negotiating and arguing for them. We speak, act and write on behalf of our clients. We help them pursue their needs and interests, as well as their legal rights and entitlements. We support them in addressing their concerns and in achieving dignity through empowerment. We help them make informed decisions, we develop options, we give choice and control to our clients, and we help them resolve complex issues and disputes that would otherwise impact negatively on their life.

As advocates, lawyers are protectors of legal and human rights and interests. Lawyers play an important role in society. Advocacy is a very important element of every lawyer’s professional identity. Advocacy is in effect the art of persuasion.

McNamara Law and their team of lawyers are ready to advocate for you, just like the blacksmiths used to. Contact us on 1300 285 888.
