Are your Will and Enduring Power of Attorney up to date?

Many Australians assume that once they have created a Will and an Enduring Power of Attorney, they never have to do another.  Whilst that may be the case for some people, it is important to note that life is busy and ever changing for us all.  As life changes, our Will and Enduring Power of Attorney should change as well.  Ensuring these documents are kept up to date provides you with peace of mind and can save your loved one from unnecessary stress.

The following life events are important when considering whether to update your Will and Enduring Power of Attorney: –

1.     Your marriage, divorce or separation with a partner or spouse.

2.     Your family circumstances change, such as the birth, adoption or estrangement from a child or grandchild.

3.     A person named in your Will or Enduring Power of Attorney has passed away.

4.     You purchase or sell major assets, such as real estate or shares, either in Australia or overseas.

5.     You are diagnosed with, or are recovering from, a major illness.

6.     There is a major change in your financial circumstances, such as retirement or receiving an inheritance.

If it has been a little while since you reviewed your estate planning documents, or one of the above life events have happened to you, then perhaps it is time to meet with one of our Wills and Estates Solicitors to ensure your documents suit your needs.  Our experienced Solicitors can provide you with expert advice in Wills and Estate Planning to ensure security and peace of mind.
